As 2021 unfolded and we found ourselves still in the clutches of COVID.  For the first time ever, we ran two Ribfest events in one year in support of the increasing needs within the community. Our sponsors, friends, and community leaders came to the table not only once but twice, to support Rotary’s efforts and to that we say THANK YOU!

As 2021 unfolded and we found ourselves still in the clutches of COVID.  For the first time ever, we ran two Ribfest events in one year in support of the increasing needs within the community. Our June and September events were both met with enthusiasm from the community. One thing we know for sure, people love Ribs! The Ribbers did an amazing job cooking up a slow smoked tasty meal. The addition of the hot mini Tiny Toms donuts and fresh corn on the cob didn’t disappoint.

In September we partnered with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Metrolinx to have the GOVAXX bus on site on Sunday from 9am – 7pm providing free Pfizer vaccines to the public. This initiative was a huge success with every vial they had on hand being dispensed. This was only the second time they had encountered such an overwhelming response.

Over 10,000 cars came through Ribfest this year raising approx. $120,000 much needed funds for the Mississauga Food Bank and Rotary supported charities. We saw many, many smiles and heard from people how well run the event was, how it gave them something to look forward to and we saw some returning several times over the weekend.

We held a raffle at both events with 6 award winning magnums of wine being raffled off in June and an Ultimate Entertainment Treasure Chest worth over $4,000 being raffled off in September. Both were a huge success with over $11,000 dollars being raised.

This year’s events were also challenging as one of our focuses, especially in June, was to keep everyone involved safe. We supplied the appropriate PPE and safety protocols and restricted our volunteers to only Rotarians, partners and their family and friends and they certainly stepped up! Through, heat, rain, and many hours in the sun our volunteers were the beating hearts pumping out a smooth and successful event.

Once again, we truly thank everyone for supporting our Mississauga Rotary Ribfest initiative and the community that this kind of an event supports. A few less people will go hungry or without this year because everyone stepped up.

Check out the Fun from this year's events
